Phils win series against Marlins
The Philadelphia Phillies were down to their last strike against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon. They were trailing just 1-0, with back-up catcher Garrett Stubbs at the plate. On a 2-2 count, Stubbs blasted the ball into right field for a walk-off, three-run home run. He gifted the Phillies their 32nd win, as well as their fourth straight series win. —Lauren Amour, Inside the Phillies

Phillies option Moniak, promote Muñoz
The Phillies announced two roster moves on Tuesday, sending outfielder Mickey Moniak to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and promoting infielder Yairo Muñoz.
Moniak’s demotion comes after slashing just .160/.250/.160 with 11 K in nine major league games.
Across 45 games this season with Lehigh Valley, Muñoz was hitting .319/.345/.454 with five home runs.
Muñoz has batted .275/.327/.395 in four MLB seasons between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. —Declan Harris, Inside the Phillies

Phils face Nats for first time
Philadelphia will travel to Washington to take on the Nationals for, surprisingly, the first time this season for a five-game series. With Wednesday’s win, the Phillies are one game over .500 at 32-31 and are nine games back of first place. Meanwhile, the Nats have had an incredibly poor season; at 23-41, they are in last place in the NL East. —Declan Harris, Inside the Phillies

JoJo Romero begins rehab assignment
The Phillies announced that left-handed pitcher JoJo Romero began a rehab assignment with the Phillies’ Florida Complex League team.
The RedBull can-crushing Romero hasn't pitched since 2021, when he posted a 7.00 ERA across nine frames of work.
Early looks at Romero in rehab have appeared promising. His stuff looks to be in good shape, and the lefty has slowly been ramping his velocity back up.
The Phillies could always use an extra lefty out of the bullpen, and Romero's spark-plug personality should mesh well with a revitalized Phillies clubhouse. —Alex Carr, Inside the Phillies

McGarry twirls 10 punch-outs
Griff McGarry continues to strike batters out at a torrid pace. He spun a 10 punch-out gem on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits with one walk across six innings of work.
Through 35.1 innings in 2022, the righty has K'd 58 batters. However, with great stuff comes great responsibility, and McGarry has let his control issues get the better of him often this season, walking 18 batters in that same span.
The Phillies envision him moving through the system quickly. Even as he was building back from an injury he sustained in the spring, they aggressively promoted him to High-A Jersey Shore, where he has begun to settle in.
Triple-A: Marchan continues strong rehab showing
Rafael Marchan has resurfaced with a bang. He hit his second ever MiLB home run and a double on Wednesday, rounding out his two-hit day. He's hitting .262 alongside an .891 OPS in Lehigh Valley.
Double-A: McArthur misses bats, but continues to fill bases
All six-foot-seven of James McArthur screams promise. He boasts a plus breaking ball that pairs well with his mid-to-upper 90s velocity fastball. In typical McArthurian fashion, he tossed 6.1 solid innings on Wednesday, but allowed seven hits, walked three, and struck out seven. All three of his runs allowed, funnily enough, came via the solo home run.
High-A: De La Cruz smacks two hits in BlueClaws loss
It's not often the pitcher sees a six-foot-eight presence standing opposite them in the batter's box, but Carlos De La Cruz is just that. He's struggled with pitch selection in his career, and has multiple holes in his swing thanks to his size, but the hulking outfielder is putting together a solid season. It will take some work, but if he can manage to work through some of the trials that come with being such an imposing figure, it's hard not to be excited about him.
Single-A: Threshers are no-hit...again.
For the second time this season, the Clearwater Threshers were no hit on Wednesday. A lineup consisting of strong hitters like Kendall Simmons, Marcus Lee Sang, Andrick Nava, and others mustered next-to-nothing against the Palm Beach Cardinals formidable pitching effort. —Alex Carr, Inside the Phillies
Opinion: Could Trea Turner be the Phillies' shortstop in 2023?
At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Los Angeles Dodgers’ shortstop Trea Turner will become a free agent.
Phillies’ DH Bryce Harper and Turner were teammates on the Washington Nationals until the end of the 2018 season. In that time, Turner broke out and began to solidify himself as one of the top shortstops in the league.
“He’s one of the best shortstops in the game,” Harper said of Turner. “I’m excited to see where he goes next year.”
Harper has been known to work his magic on the front office when it comes to swaying big names to Philadelphia. Should the Dodgers fail to sign Turner to a long-term deal, perhaps Harper could persuade another top-tier free agent into red pinstripes in 2023. —Lauren Amour, Inside the Phillies
