Phils’ winning streak ends at nine
All good things must come to an end, but perhaps not always in such terrible fashion? The Philadelphia Phillies’ nine-game winning streak concluded on Sunday in a 13-1 blowout loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was so bad that the Phillies had to call on Garrett Stubbs to pitch the 9th inning, as you can see above. Luckily, the Phillies were still able to secure their third consecutive series win on Saturday. —Lauren Amour, Inside the Phillies

Report: Knebel is day to day with shoulder discomfort
Phillies Manager Rob Thomson has listed closer Corey Knebel as “day to day,” per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
Knebel's shoulder had been giving him issues since warming up on Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Although, according to Zolecki, Knebel felt fine after playing catch on Sunday.
There has been no word if Knebel will be ready for Monday's series opener against the Miami Marlins. —Declan Harris, Inside the Phillies

Phillies recall Alvarado, option Sánchez
The Phillies announced that they recalled left-handed relief pitcher José Alvarado on Sunday, swapping him with another lefty in Cristopher Sánchez.
Across four games with Lehigh Valley, Alvarado held a perfect 0.00 ERA and a WHIP of 0.50, all while fanning five batters.
However, on Sunday, Alvarado made his first appearance since May 25 in the 7th inning, allowing two runs on two hits in one inning of work in the Phillies’ 13-1 loss.
Sánchez, who has been up and down with Philadelphia, is not yet a finished product. The lefty owns an ERA of 4.60 at the major league level. —Declan Harris, Inside the Phillies

Painter slings in BlueClaws debut
Andrew Painter made his long-awaited High-A debut on Sunday. His first inning went exactly to plan: he struck out the side, touched triple-digits, and featured some nasty breaking stuff.
Things unraveled a tad from then on, and Painter's day ended after three innings of work, in which he allowed five hits, three runs, and three walks, while striking out four.
Triple-A: Bailey Falter spins gem
Falter spun seven innings of two-run ball against the Omaha Storm Chasers on Saturday, allowing just four hits, one walk, and striking out two. Thus far, Falter has posted a 1.54 ERA across 23.1 innings of work, striking out 28 and walking just three batters.
Double-A: Jhailyn Ortiz gets back on track
It's been a tough month or so for the Phillies young power-hitting prospect, but Ortiz got back on track on Sunday, slugging a double in a two-hit day for Reading. Despite his struggles, Ortiz still boasts a .759 OPS in Double-A this season and is hitting .238.
High-A: Ben Brown extends stunning streak
In his last five starts, Brown hasn't allowed more than one run, and in those 27.1 innings, he's struck out 44 batters. Brown is consistently sitting 95-97 on his fastball, and has featured a strong arsenal of breaking pitches.
Single-A: Marcus Lee Sang continues intriguing start
Sang ripped two home runs this weekend, doubling his total, and bumping his OPS up to .720 on the season. He boasts some of the better exit velocities among Clearwater hitters, and has the potential to develop five average-or-better tools in the future. —Alex Carr, Inside the Phillies
Opinion: Brogdon will grow into high-leverage role
When Rob Thomson was appointed as manager, the Phillies’ bullpen management plan seemed to discernibly change.
Relievers like Andrew Bellatti and James Norwood began seeing less time on the field, each receiving just two appearances over the Phillies' last three series, while Connor Brogdon’s workload has increased drastically.
In fact, it’s become apparent that Thomson has begun to slowly introduce Brogdon into a high-leverage role.
Three of Brogdon’s last four appearances have come in the eighth inning or later. His first two “holds” of the season each came during his last two appearances against the Diamondbacks and Brewers. —Alex Carr, Inside the Phillies
